Korean Spicy Pork (Jeyuk Bokkeum)

Sweet and spicy Korean marinated pork with onions. The perfect pair with a hot bowl of rice!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Pork shoulder
  • 1 Small onion
  • 1-2 Serrano chillies Optional
  • Green onion For garnish

Marinade

  • 2.5 tbsp Gochujang Korean fermented red pepper paste
  • 1 tsp Doenjang Korean fermented soy bean paste
  • 1 1/3 tbsp Korean red chilli flakes Gochugaru
  • 3 cloves Garlic Minced
  • 3 1/3 tbsp Plum extract Can be substituted with mirim (Korean cooking wine)
  • 1.5 tsp Sugar
  • 1 tsp Honey
  • 1 tsp Sesame oil More for garnish
  • 1 tsp Sesame seeds

Instructions

  • Thinly slice pork (little thinner than 1/4"), thinly slice onion
  • Mix all marinade ingredients in a large bowl and mix thoroughly. Add pork and onion to bowl and mix to combine. Cover and allow to marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  • Heat a large pan over medium high heat. Add marinated meat to pan with serrano chillies (if using.) Cook, stirring often for about 4-5 minutes until pork is cooked through. Remove from heat and serve topped with extra sesame seeds, chopped green onion and a bowl of rice!
